Read for My School

Programme Overview

Read for My School is a completely free national schools reading competition that promotes reading for pleasure by challenging pupils to read as many books as possible in three months. Throughout the competition there are prizes and awards to be won for schools and pupils taking part.

  • The competition is open to all children in Years 3 to 8 throughout England.
  • The website includes a library of over 100 online books to choose from and all pupils can access these freely throughout the competition.
  • Pupils are also able to record books they had read offline as part of their Read for My School total

2016 Highlights

Read for My School 2016 ran from January to April. In that time we are delighted to report that over 590,000 books were read by over 130,000 pupils in over 2,000 schools across the country!

2016 Judging, Prizes and Awards Ceremony

Reading Groups where an average of 9 books per pupil have been read are in with a chance of winning Pearson book vouchers worth up to £1,000. Teachers can also nominate their pupils as Reading Legends, giving them a chance to win a tower of books.

By 29 th April all winning schools and pupils were contacted. Winners receive their awards at the RFMS Awards Ceremony in London on 13 th June.
